Emotional Resilience – Divorce Isn’t Funny – But Some of This Is

Divorce Isn’t Funny… But Some of This Is…

Sometimes you just need to look back and laugh

Let’s be honest.

There are moments in divorce that are so ridiculous…you either laugh or lose your mind.

So here we are.

A few truths that feel like jokes:

  • “Let’s just keep this amicable”  (Translation: until something doesn’t go my way)
  • “I don’t care about the money”  (Also them: cares deeply about the money)
  • “We should do what’s best for the kids” (But only if it aligns with what I want)
  • Mediation starting at 9am and suddenly it’s 8pm and you’ve aged 3 years, haven’t eaten all day, and your attorney is starting to get calls from home.
  • Realizing you now need a spreadsheet for EVERYTHING!
  • The moment you learn words like “equitable distribution” and now you realize “Equitable” is just a legal term for “I’m going to take the house and you can keep your hopes and dreams”
  • And my personal favorite:  “This should be simple”

There’s nothing simple about unraveling a life.

But humor?  It gives you a breath.

A reset.

A reminder that even in the middle of something heavy…you’re still allowed to feel light for a second.

And sometimes that second is enough to keep you steady for the next move.
